Transportation Pilot Project Available To Youth For Launch Pad Spring Programs
Launch Pad Youth Activity and Technology Centre (Launch Pad) in partnership with the Saugeen Economic Development Corporation are excited to announce a pilot transportation project for youth participating in the Spring 2018 After School Programs hosted at Launch Pad.
Transportation will be available to youth registered in the programs at the end of school day from their schools in Walkerton, Chesley, and Durham. Return transportation will also be available back to the youth’s school at the end of the day. Students attending JDSS, but live in Chesley, Durham and Walkerton, will walk to Launch Pad after school and have access to return transportation, to the designated school drop off spots.
“The Saugeen Economic Development Corporation is excited to be able to partner with Launch Pad to offer this transportation opportunity. The lack of viable transportation options in rural areas makes it difficult for many adults and youth to take advantage of employment and educational opportunities, as well as many other services. Our hope is that by providing this source of transportation for our youth, we will gain valuable knowledge, that will assist us in addressing this complex and challenging problem.”
Rose Austin, General Manager, SEDC
“Transportation across rural communities is a difficult issue to tackle and a lack of transportation opportunities is consistently identified as a significant barrier to youth in Grey-Bruce,” explains Emily Morrison, Executive Director for Launch Pad. “This partnership will allow us to begin reducing those barriers for youth to develop their skills at Launch Pad.”
Launch Pad is open Tuesday to Friday 3:30 – 8:00 PM for 12-18 year olds and offers after school/evening programming focused on skills based learning in addition to a youth drop-in space. The Centre encourages youth to gain the skills they need to become active and contributing members of their communities. Launch Pad also offers full day programs throughout the summer months. Registration is now open for Spring and Summer Programs. For more information, or a tour of Launch Pad, check out our website at www.yatc.ca or call 519 506-6300
